Jeff Reisig, who has led the office since 2007, announced the move in a letter sent to county supervisors on the evening of Tuesday, May 5. His last day will be May 15.
“After serving nearly five terms as Yolo County’s elected District Attorney, I have decided to retire,” the letter reads. “I look forward to spending more time with my family in the next chapter of my life.”

Last month, Reisig’s office announced sweeping indictments related to last summer’s deadly fireworks blast in Esparto. During the press conference, he said it was the biggest investigation he had participated in as district attorney.
Reisig’s term lasts through January 2029, so his retirement means that the Yolo County Board of Supervisors will need to appoint a replacement, a process that can take months. Melinda Aiello, the chief deputy district attorney, remains in the office.
When reached for comment, the DA’s office declined to provide further details.
