The traditional media landscape is loud, polarizing, and reactive — built for speed, not substance. It prioritizes clicks over clarity and profits over service.
Welcome to the new era of Sacramento journalism. We tell the stories that define what it means to call this place home. No opinions. No noise. Just public service journalism that informs and connects, powered by the region’s most trusted source of news and information, PBS KVIE.

Rooted in Sacramento
Our future is tied directly to this region’s future. We are building a new model for journalism to inspire a return to local news that readers can trust.
Launches on 9/16
Abridged launches on Sept. 16, 2025 — in honor of Sacramento’s 916 area code. Elevating the stories, people and issues that define life in the Sacramento region.

We spent months listening to this community to discover what was missing from the local media landscape, and the message was clear:
You want news and information that is free, nonpartisan and cuts through the noise.
We’ll deliver on that with daily morning newsletters and a website. Other newsletters will focus on the region’s vibrant food, drink and arts scenes. You’ll also find us on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, as well as other social platforms as we grow.
Our journalism will highlight:
News and information that directly impacts your quality of life, from the places you gather to what matters most in your home. We’ll take you where community is built through food, drink and culture, and empower you to play a direct role in the decisions shaping the region’s future.
Abridged will provide:
A refreshing antidote to the noise: honest, human storytelling that empowers. Bridges instead of divides. Inspiration instead of exhaustion. Here, you’re in good company and in closer connection with the world that matters to you. This is your platform — rooted in Sacramento, powered by your community, and built to help you feel more connected to the place you call home.
And, we’ll cover:
The most important issues from communities in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado counties. With the community’s support, we’ll focus on more counties in the future. We’ll apply much-needed accountability to local governments and expose the decisions that are making life in the Sacramento region less affordable. We’ll provide advice and resources for finding health, wellness and joy, whether you’re a young adult or forging a new path in retirement. Our coverage of public education will give parents the tools they need to make informed decisions about their children’s future.
