Pangaea Bier Cafe is coming back. Just not in Curtis Park.
The popular beer hall and restaurant will reopen in spring 2027 in The Diggs, a mixed-use building currently under construction at 3rd and R streets, according to a social media post Wednesday.
Kin and Rob Archie launched Pangaea in Curtis Park across from Gunther’s Ice Cream in 2008, and it became a neighborhood favorite during the nascent days of Sacramento’s craft beer boom. Its award-winning burger was considered one of the region’s best, and a tap list of local brews and European imports won over many a barfly.
Rob went on to launch Urban Roots Brewing with business partner Peter Hoey, and spun off sister concepts Bawk, Good Neighbor and Cervecería at The Shack. But Rob and Kin couldn’t reach an agreement with his father Lee Archie, Pangaea’s landlord, to extend the lease at their original business. Pangaea closed its doors at 2743 Franklin Blvd. in March.
The new Pangaea will occupy a 7,000-square foot outdoor beer garden, Archie said, along with about 4,000 square feet of industrial-looking indoor space. Favorites such as the burger will return to the menu, with a chef to be hired at a later date.

Pangaea will continue importing beers, but for the first time, it’ll also produce its own. A small on-site brewing area will host collaborations with the operators’ favorite brewers from around the U.S. and globe, Archie said.
“Pangaea’s always been trying to source the best beers in the world, and now we’re also trying to source the best brewers,” he said.
The Diggs will house 133 apartments above Pangaea when Heller Pacific, the group behind Midtown developments such as the Ice Blocks and MARRS building, finishes construction at the end of this year.
It’ll be joined by a bar called Sound Advice, a sister concept to hi-fi bar Legend Has It, according to the Sacramento Business Journal. Local structural engineering firm Miyamoto International will be another commercial tenant, the Business Journal reported last month.
