The Abridged version:
- Intel, Folsom’s largest employer, will lay off 67 employees from its campus, effective Saturday.
- The October layoffs follow years of downsizing by the company, hoping to reduce costs on facilities.
- City leaders say that while the semiconductor manufacturer is undergoing multi-year layoffs, Folsom continues to grow.
Intel is laying off 67 workers at its Folsom location, set to take effect Saturday, according to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification documents.
The job cuts come amid broader corporate restructuring efforts to reduce overall costs across facilities. Since July 2025, the Folsom facility has eliminated 427 positions, the second most of any Intel campus in California, behind the company’s corporate headquarters in Santa Clara.
Intel representatives have not yet provided specific details as to which departments are affected by the October layoffs. The Folsom site primarily functions as a research, chip design and testing facility.
The layoffs follow a period of downsizing for the company since 2023. Intel initially eliminated 330 positions, followed by additional cuts in August 2024 and July 2025. In total, the company has cut jobs for over 1,000 workers in the region since early 2023.

“While we are disappointed that Intel is laying off employees at the Folsom campus, the job growth in the semiconductor industry in Folsom and in our region is strong,” Mayor Justin Raithel said in a statement. “Folsom remains a core engineering and design location for Intel and we will continue working with them to retain and grow high-quality jobs in the future.”
