How we're funded
Abridged journalism is free. We are a locally owned nonprofit news organization, powered by PBS KVIE, a trusted public media station that has been serving this region since 1959. We are funded by the generous support of individual donors, major donors, sponsors and grants.
Founding Supporters
Abridged and PBS KVIE would like to thank our founding supporters, whose contributions of $10,000 or more provided vital support to our launch.
Sponsors
Abridged is Sacramento’s new nonprofit digital news service, powered by PBS KVIE. We deliver daily stories of relevance and trust to our community.
Editorial independence policy
Abridged adheres to a strict editorial independence policy guided by standards adopted by the Institute of Nonprofit News (INN) and other national leaders in the nonprofit journalism industry.
Abridged accepts grants, donations, sponsorships and gifts from individuals, organizations and foundations to support our essential local journalism. However, we maintain a firewall between our news coverage decisions and all sources of revenue. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their products, services or opinions.
We will reveal when grant funding supports reporting on specific topics. Our daily news coverage decisions - including who we feature in our reporting - are made independently and not on the basis of donor support. We will cede no right of review or influence of editorial content, nor of unauthorized distribution of editorial content.
Abridged will make public all donors who give a total of $10,000 or more per year. Abridged will disclose when a donor giving more than $10,000 per year is the subject of a story. We accept anonymous donations for general support only if it is clear sufficient safeguards have been put into place that the expenditure of that donation is made independently by our organization and in compliance with INN’s membership standards.
