The Abridged version:

  • Brianna Taylor joins the Abridged by PBS KVIE team as audience engagement reporter. You might recognize her byline from the health and wellness stories she’s written for us since we launched in September.
  • In this new role, she’ll build meaningful connections with the community and bring that feedback to her fellow journalists. You’ll see her out in the community and she’ll be inviting you into our newsroom world.
  • Taylor previously spent three years at The Sacramento Bee writing stories to help people live happy, safe and healthy lives in their communities.

The Abridged by PBS KVIE newsroom is growing — and our latest hire is here to represent you in every aspect of our coverage and mission.

Brianna Taylor joined our news team last week as an audience engagement reporter. You may recognize her byline, as she’s covered health and wellness for Abridged since our launch in September. Her stories have touched topics from food insecurity to the benefits of walking, tips for battling seasonal depression and finding a therapist in our region.

Taylor brings her thoughtful reporting and deep passion for local journalism to this new role, in which she’ll build meaningful connections with our neighbors and bring that feedback to her fellow journalists.

“I’m thrilled to bridge the gap between you and our newsroom, so your curiosities are reflected in our coverage,” Taylor says. “That means meeting you where you are to hear how we can help you live your best life.”

Sign Up for the Morning Newsletter

The Abridged morning newsletter lands in your inbox every weekday morning with the latest news from the Sacramento region.

You’ll see her out and about in local coffee shops, breweries and other common spaces to meet and get to know you. She’ll also be inviting you into our newsroom world — raising the curtain so you can see just how we do our reporting every day. Through her work, she’ll position Abridged as a community convener and contributor to the Sacramento region’s social wellbeing.

“We all deserve to feel seen,” Taylor says.

Taylor will serve as our lead journalist for hosting and facilitating in-person and virtual engagement events, including listening sessions and live Q&As. You’ll keep seeing her byline, too, as she reports stories based on the questions you have for her and the rest of our reporting team.

Having grown up on the East Coast, Taylor moved to Sacramento in 2022 and spent three years at The Sacramento Bee writing stories to help people live happy, safe and healthy lives in their communities. She answered direct reader questions, and she helped readers explore Sacramento on a budget, debunk election misinformation and navigate a changing job market. Before that, she reported in Maryland and Missouri.

At Abridged, our journalism is guided by real community needs and questions. If you have one, please reach out. You can email Taylor at btaylor@kvie.org or fill out the form below.
