Abridged by PBS KVIE and the Friedman family today announced a new partnership to recognize Sacramento leaders whose public service and civic contributions are making a lasting positive impact on the city and region.
The Mort Friedman Civic Leadership Award will celebrate an individual who is deeply committed to Sacramento and whose work and leadership have created significant and measurable benefits felt today and for generations to come. Honorees will have demonstrated a strong record of public service, notable civic and community contributions in Sacramento and the surrounding region, and a commitment to advancing the public good.
Friedman Family Fund will support the award
A fund established by the Friedman family at the Sacramento Regional Community Foundation (SRCF) will support the award. Each year, the award recipient will be recognized by PBS KVIE and will direct the fund’s annual contribution to the nonprofit or charity of their choice, amplifying their impact on the community they serve.
“My father believed deeply in the power of individuals to make a difference,” said Mark Friedman, Mort Friedman’s son. “He loved Sacramento and worked hard to strengthen the institutions and civic culture that make it special. Through this award, we hope to honor his legacy by recognizing exceptional leaders whose commitment to service help us build a stronger future.”
Members of the public are invited to nominate recipients. A selection committee convened by PBS KVIE and the Friedman family will review nominations and select an honoree.
Nominations will be accepted until April 30 on the form below. Each nomination should include:
- The nominee’s full name, contact information and current role in the community
- A brief biography or testimonial of the impact the nominee has had on the Sacramento region.
- Contact information for two references who can speak to the nominee’s civic contributions.
