Tropeycalia Club Artist Talk

Join artists John Yoyogi Fortes, Carlo Ricafort, and Juan Carlos Quintana of the Tropeycalia Club for a conversation about Título Salvaje ⇄ Salvaged Title, their multidisciplinary exhibition inspired by the revolutionary spirit of Brazil’s 1960s Tropicália movement.

Through painting, mixed media, and installation, the artists use satire, humor, and cultural “cannibalism” to explore colonialism, cultural imperialism, consumerism, identity, and the ongoing struggle for cultural sovereignty. During this artist talk, the three artists will discuss their individual practices, the ideas behind the exhibition, and how art can challenge dominant narratives and provoke dialogue around social justice, cultural identity, and self-determination.

The talk will take place in the Sacramento State Library Gallery and is open to the public.
