SUMMARY:An art project that buzzes with community
DESCRIPTION:From Cultural Capital by Chris Macias:\nPiece by piece\, or more like cell by cell\, this dazzling work of art takes shape. “The Honeycomb Project” is comprised of 900 hexagon panels from 500 artists\, an irresistible expression of community and connection. This traveling exhibition has its roots in Nevada\, but it’s next stop will be the Mills Station Arts & Culture Center from Friday through Aug. 1. \n“The Honeycomb Project” is the brainchild of Candace Garlock\, a multi-media artist who also teaches fine art at Truckee Meadows Community College. She found the honeycomb as a perfect metaphor for its sense of working in harmony to create unified whole. \nThe details: \nMills Station Arts & Culture Center\, 10191 Mills Station Road\, Rancho Cordova \n5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Friday (reception and artist talk) \nFree entry \nWant events like this sent directly to your inbox? SUMMARY:Sublime Colombian Sounds at The Shady Lady Saloon
DESCRIPTION:From Cultural Capital by Chris Macias: \nOne of the week’s most exquisite musical offerings can be found Friday as Alea takes the stage at The Shady Lady Saloon in the R Street Corridor. She’s a native of Colombia by way of the Bronx who weaves cumbia\, jazz\, folk and other genres into a seamless\, enchanting whole. It’s no wonder that Rolling Stone magazine named Alea’s 2021 album “Alborotá” among that year’s best Spanish-language and bilingual albums. Kick back with a White Linen cocktail while Alea sings “Échale Sal” and bliss will be imminent. \nWant events like this sent directly to your inbox? SUMMARY:Sunset Party - Disco Paradiso at Drake's The Barn
DESCRIPTION:From Cultural Capital by Chris Macias: \nThe last time we checked in with Shaun Slaughter and Adam Jay\, the two DJs were bidding farewell to Sacramento’s long-running Lipstick dance party. Now\, their jams are back Saturday at Drake’s: The Barn in West Sacramento for a free\, all-ages sunset dance party dubbed “Disco Paradiso.” While Lipstick was more on the indie-dance side\, this soiree harkens to the legendary Paradise Garage in New York City with house music\, disco and tropical sounds to complete the summer vibe. Can I request “Born to Be Alive” by Patrick Hernandez? \nWant events like this sent directly to your inbox? Sign up for Abridged by PBS KVIE’s weekly things to do newsletter here.
