SUMMARY:Lipstick at Old Ironsides
DESCRIPTION:From Cultural Capital by Chris Macias: \nIt’s hard to think of Sacramento’s dance scene without Lipstick in the mix. For more than a quarter-century\, DJs Shaun Slaughter\, Adam Jay and Roger Carpio created a Sacramento indie-dance institution with the monthly Lipstick party. But after all these years\, and nearly 300 gigs later\, Lipstick is going silent. Kind of. \nSaturday marks the final night with Lipstick as a monthly event. But before dropping tears on your favorite LCD Soundsystem or Ladytron vinyl: Slaughter insists that Lipstick will return in some way.   \n“After 26 years\, I’d like to give every event under the Lipstick banner all the energy we have and it’s hard to do that every month\,” he said in a Facebook message. “I really just wanna be excited every time we do it and for people to feel that.” \nNow\, the Lipstick crew will catch its collective breath. Shaun says Lipstick could re-emerge as an occasional special event or be re-shaped another way. But after Saturday\, Lipstick as a monthly will be just a memory. And those euphoric floor-stomping nights will very much be missed.  \nMore details here. \nWant events like this sent directly to your email? SUMMARY:Photography Exhibition Featuring the Work of Phil Serna
DESCRIPTION:From Cultural Capital by Chris Macias: \nIf you run into Phil Serna outside of his duties as a Sacramento County Supervisor\, there’s a good chance he’s lugging a Hasselblad X2D or Leica SL2 camera. Serna’s spent the last three decades as an avid photographer\, from documenting the slam dancing masses and bands at Aftershock\, to capturing Death Valley’s landscape and Mexico City’s urban life. \nHead to the Sacramento County Board Chamber Gallery on Wednesday for an opening reception of his “Learning to See” photo exhibition. It’s held in conjunction with Photography Month Sacramento and includes 24 of his photos. If you can’t make the reception\, the display runs through Jan. 1\, 2027 and is accessible when Sacramento County Board of Supervisors meetings are in session. \n“My photography isn’t just an artistic outlet for me\,” said Serna in a text message. “It is essential to who I am\, how I achieve balance and calm relative to the chaotic world around me.” \nMore details here. \nWant events like this sent directly to your email?
