SUMMARY:MIDTOWN RECORD SWAP
DESCRIPTION:Sacramento..I do believe we’ve just come out of our #firstfalsefall. Which can only mean one thing. It’s your last chance to catch your record collection up and fill your #musicalpantry for the year.. \nAt the MIDTOWN RECORD SWAP! \nWe are back for the final Swap of the year and #somepeoplearesaying we saved the best for last. We have a fresh mix of your favorite local independent record sellers along with new faces coming from out of town and out of state! But you already know how we do. \nWe keep it nice!\nThe CLARA lets us dial in the thermostat and sound system..all for your comfort. We intentionally do not overcrowd the space. Lots of room and time to dig without anybody breathing down your neck. Not to mention\, FREE ONSITE PARKING! \nWe keep it fun!\nNo early bird access. No cost to dig. No greedy elbows to duck. No bitter record hoarders. We’ve got giveaways and all kinds of fun throughout the day. \nWe keep it fresh!\nNo déjà vu. No “same old”. We work hard to balance your favorite sellers with new sellers we know you’ll love. THIS IS IMPORTANT. There’s one thing you’ll never see us doing: posting to look for vendors. When we see events doing that\, well..you know what it means. WE KNOW WHO WE WANT TO INVITE to sell…um..the people we want to buy from! The people who always have something special. The people YOU want to buy from. And the people we can’t wait for you to meet. \nOf course\, the CLARA and our event are accessible to all. My mom spent much of her life in a wheelchair and I’ve experienced many ways the limitations of access afforded to people with disabilities can affect us all. We are committed to ensuring access to all and enjoy having more of you joining us at each Swap. \nNothing has made us more proud than seeing the ever-growing number of young\, diverse and passionate music lovers making up more and more of our crowds. \nMIDTOWN RECORD SWAP\nSATURDAY OCTOBER 3RD\n10 AM – 3 PM\nCLARA\n24th & N\nFREE ONSITE PARKING\nNew & Used Records\, Tapes & CDs\nSeasons Coffee onsite!

SUMMARY:Wisdom of Women Symposium – Unstoppable: Power\, Investment & the Future of Women’s Professional Sports
DESCRIPTION:A Conversation with Brandi Chastain & Candace Parker\nJoin us for a double-gold day featuring an exclusive conversation with two Olympics gold medalists: soccer legend Brandi Chastain and basketball phenom Candace Parker. They will share their wins and challenges – how they have cultivated success as industry leaders\, authors and champions for women in all aspects of life. Following\, we’ll talk with a panel of Bay Area leaders to continue the conversation about women thriving in a competitive world. \nBrandi Chastain \nBrandi Chastain is an iconic American athlete\, a retired soccer player\, two-time Olympic gold-medalist\, broadcaster and two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion. California-born Chastain has had a fantastic career\, playing professionally for several major teams\, including Shiroki FC in the Japan Women’s Football League\, the San Jose CyberRays of the Women’s United Soccer Association\, FC Gold Pride of Women’s Professional Soccer\, and California Storm of Women’s Premier Soccer League. Between the 1988 and 2004\, Chastain played for the U.S. Women’s National Team; it was during this time that the squad won two Olympic gold medals and two World Cups. \nIn sports broadcasting\, Chastain has worked as a commentator for soccer matches both with NBC Sports during the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics and with ABC/ESPN covering Major League Soccer and the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. A champion of girls’ health\, Chastain co-founded the Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative in 2005 with a mission to create programs and partnerships through which women athletes bring health\, hope\, and wholeness to the community. She is the author of the 2005 book\, “It’s Not About the Bra: Play Hard\, Play Fair\, and Put the Fun Back Into Competitive Sports.” \nCandace Parker \nCandace Parker has already solidified herself as one of the most influential athletes of this generation. After being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks\, following a champion career at Tennessee\, Parker went on to become the first player to earn WNBA MVP and Rookie of the Year honors in the same season. Over the course of her illustrious career\, Parker won three WNBA championship titles\, and took home two Olympic gold medals\, helping redefine versatility and excellence in women’s basketball. \nIn 2026\, she was named a headlining inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Off the court\, first and foremost\, she is a wife\, mother of three children and three dogs. Since retired\, she serves as an author\, public speaker\, activist\, entrepreneur\, and studio broadcaster for men’s and women’s basketball. Her recent book\, “The Can-Do Mindset: How to Cultivate Resilience\, Follow Your Heart\, and Fight for Your Passion” breaks down her recipe for success which has helped her success on and off the court. \nAlso Speaking:\nRyann Greenberg\, vice president of guest experience and venue operations\, Bay FC \nRyann Greenberg is vice president of guest experience and venue operations at Bay FC\, responsible for delivering world-class experience for players\, fans\, and partners across the club’s operations. She leads match day operations and guest experience for the club and as a member of the club’s executive leadership team has helped Bay FC quickly establish itself as a commercial powerhouse by leading the NWSL in merchandise sales and finishing in the top five for average home attendance. Building on that business momentum\, the club shattered records by drawing a sellout crowd of 40\,091 fans to Oracle Park in their second season\, establishing the highest single-game attendance record in U.S. women’s professional sports league history. \nJess Smith\, president\, Golden State Valkyries \nJess Smith began her first season as president of the Golden State Valkyries ahead of the team’s inaugural 2025 season. Smith\, who has over 18 years of experience in professional sports\, oversees all WNBA business operations. Under Smith’s leadership\, the Valkyries have built a winning culture on and off the court. During their inaugural season\, the Valkyries set all-time WNBA records for both average attendance (18\,064) and total attendance (397\,408)\, selling out all 22 regular-season home games. \nHeather Vaughan\, president\, MLV NorCal \nHeather Vaughan is President of MLV NorCal\, Northern California’s Major League Volleyball franchise\, where she is leading the launch of one of the newest professional women’s sports teams in the country. A passionate brand builder with more than 25 years in professional sports\, entertainment\, and live events\, she previously held leadership roles with Sharks Sports & Entertainment\, the Pac-12 Conference\, and Sacramento Kings. An award-winning marketer and university instructor\, Heather is dedicated to uniting communities through sports and advancing women’s professional athletics. \nModerator: \nPamela Wu ’95\, director of news and media relations\, UC Davis Health \nPamela Wu’s career spans the fields of broadcast journalism\, public relations\, and communications training.

SUMMARY:United Way’s “Innovate and Ignite” Benefiting Foster Youth
DESCRIPTION:Join us for “Innovate and Ignite\,” United Way California Capital Region’s Women United fall fundraiser on Oct. 8 that will raise funds for the local United Way’s foster youth initiatives. The event will take place 5:30-7:30 p.m. at The Cannery Place\, 1601 Alhambra Blvd\, Suite 200\, in Sacramento\, and will include charcuterie\, wine and networking. Tickets are $65 per person. The evening also will feature an interactive fireside chat with local women leaders\, including: Dr. Dawnté Early\, president and CEO\, United Way California Capital Region; Lora Anguay\, CEO and general manager\, SMUD; and Mary Daffin\, co-owner\, The Jacquelyn\, with emcee Brandi Cummings\, anchor and reporter\, KCRA3. For tickets: http://uwccr.org/InnovateandIgnite. \nThe local United Way’s Women United is a philanthropic network of more than 250 women who leverage their passions\, ideas\, expertise and resources to ensure foster youth are prepared for success in adulthood. Since its inception in 2002\, Women United has raised more than $2 million to help foster youth gain the skills and education they need to thrive. Through their signature initiative\, the Collegiate Guaranteed Income Program\, 20 former foster youth studying at Sacramento State and UC Davis receive $500 per month for one year\, along with access to mentorship\, financial coaching\, digital tools and wraparound support\, so students can cover basic needs like rent\, groceries and transportation while focusing on their education. For more information and to get involved: www.YourLocalUnitedWay.org/Get-Involved/Women-United. \nFor more than 100 years\, United Way California Capital Region has mobilized communities across Amador\, El Dorado\, Placer\, Sacramento and Yolo counties to create opportunities for children and families to thrive. Through programs focused on youth opportunity\, housing stability\, financial security and community resilience\, the local United Way has served more than 100\,000 people in the past five years alone. During that time\, more than 61\,000 children received support through United Way programs\, nearly 4\,000 individuals found or maintained stable housing\, nearly $4 million was distributed through guaranteed income initiatives\, and volunteer tax preparation services helped secure more than $41 million in tax refunds for local households. SUMMARY:The Ghosts of Smithfield House: A New Original Musical
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Resurrection Theatre at the California Stage Complex in Midtown Sacramento\, running from Oct 9 – Oct 31st. \n\nEver wanted to feel like you stepped straight into an episode of your favorite supernatural series?A haunted house. A skeptical ghost hunter. A charming spirit with unfinished business. \n\n\nThe Ghosts of Smithfield House is a haunting new musical that blends mystery\, humor\, heart\, and the supernatural into an unforgettable theatrical experience. When paranormal investigator and college professor Macy Carter arrives at the infamous Smithfield House\, she expects little more than creaking floorboards\, cold drafts\, and overblown ghost stories. What she doesn’t expect is the ghost of Captain Daniel Smithfield—a charming 19th-century spirit whose past may be more tangled with the house than even he may realize. As buried secrets rise to the surface and the walls of Smithfield House begin to reveal their history\, Macy finds herself caught between past and present\, logic and belief\, and a growing connection that defies time itself. But not every spirit in the house is as welcoming\, and some ghosts prefer to keep the past exactly where it belongs.Part supernatural mystery\, part romantic comedy\, and full of haunting melodies and heartfelt surprises\, The Ghosts of Smithfield House invites audiences into a campy supernatural world where love\, loss\, and unfinished business refuse to stay buried.

SUMMARY:Sacramento Latino Book & Family Festival
DESCRIPTION:From Cultural Capital by Chris Macias: \nLeticia Ordaz is recognized around the region as an anchor and reporter for KCRA3. At the same time\, she’s built a successful career as an author and publisher of bilingual children’s books. \nHer publishing house\, Cielito Lindo Books\, recently earned numerous medals at the International Latino Book Awards. Among them\, her husband Enrique Baeza received four gold medals\, one silver and a rising star award for “That Environmental Crusader Could Be Me!” An anthology from Cielito Lindo Books\, “We Come From Greatness\, Volume 2” written by 52 migrant youths also received a gold medal and rising star honors. \nYou’ll see this passion for youthful Latino literature on display at the Sacramento Latino Book & Family Festival. Valley High in South Sacramento will teem with dozens of award-winning authors\, along with educational resources\, live music and lowriders. \nThis festival includes Hollywood star power as well. Edward James Olmos of “Stand and Deliver” and “American Me” fame will deliver a keynote address. He’s also the co-founder of Empowering Latino Futures\, a nonprofit dedicated to Latino literacy and educational success. \n“For me\, it’s about bringing families together\, helping people discover great books and inspiring someone to say\, ‘I can write a book too\,’” Ordaz wrote in an email. “It’s also very personal. I didn’t grow up seeing many books that reflected me or my culture\, so when I see children light up because they see themselves in my story\, that means everything to me.” \nWant events like this sent directly to your inbox?
