DESCRIPTION:In this foot-stomping new musical\, Grace accidentally knocks down the fence between her dad’s well-manicured backyard and Mr. Hertz’s wildflower garden\, where she discovers three monarch-butterfly eggs on a broken milkweed plant. To make amends\, she vows to raise them. Unfortunately\, the caterpillars are eating machines. Finding more milkweed for them to eat is hard. Then she learns their habitats are at risk\, too. You’ll also be treated to a reading of Sean Beaudoin’s memoir essay of his experience as a roustabout in the early days of Cirque de Soleil\, “The Unlovely Monster.”\nJosh Weil’s recently published novel\, What Came West\, received a glowing review in The New York Times\, and was praised by Kirkus Reviews as “a powerful novel\, rich in language and dark intensity.”\nNovelist\, essayist\, artist\, and musician Sean Beaudoin is the author of five novels and the story collection Welcome Thieves. In the 1990’s\, desperate for a job\, he stumbled upon the just-created Circue du Soleil and was hired\, leading to an experience he will never forget\, and you won’t either.\nDoors open at 6:30pm: show begins at 7 and ends at 9. Suggested $10 donation includes event and the famous CapLit cookies; no one turned away for lack of funds. Parking: $5 in the CLARA lot; free parking is also available on the street.

Each woman begins with a nine-week employment-readiness and empowerment program that includes free transportation assistance\, onsite childcare\, group classes\, and one-on-one work with a social worker\, housing navigator\, job developer and volunteer career mentor. Each woman who graduates from the nine-week program can return for services at any point in her life when she needs additional tools\, including paid job training and transitional workforce housing. \nSince 2001\, more than 2\,000 women have graduated from the program with their 4\,000+ children.
