The Abridged version:

As we explored the idea of launching Abridged, we spent months listening to our neighbors to discover what you wanted from your local source for news and information.

One thing we heard over and over again: You want authenticity and options. To honor that, we developed a plan for our reporters to speak directly to you on the topics many of you said were of the most interest.

We’ll do a few ways — both on and offline.

Where you can find Abridged online

Abridged will deliver news and information from the Sacramento region through multiple newsletters, social media and our website.

Starting on Sept. 16, we will be running three email newsletters: Morning news to keep you in the know on the biggest stories of the day, coverage of the region’s diverse culinary scene and information that helps you enjoy the days spent around town.

All of these are free.

The Abridged morning newsletter will land in your inbox every weekday morning with the latest news from the Sacramento region.

City of Treats by Senior Food Editor Benjy Egel comes on Tuesdays, starting Sept. 23, with news and insights from Sacramento’s vibrant culinary scene.

And Cultural Capital by Chris Macias will hit your inbox on Thursdays, beginning the 18th, highlighting things to do in the Sacramento region every week.

You can sign up here.

Abridged is already live across multiple social media platforms. You can follow our journalism — and our journalists — on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube. We also have Bluesky, LinkedIn and Reddit if you want to get ahold of us there.

All of this will be powered by the stories we publish on abridged.org.

We look forward to engaging with you online and in-person at one of our events across the region.

Savanna Smith is Audience Engagement Editor at Abridged.
