The Abridged version:

  • Law enforcement officers from around California gathered in Sacramento on Monday to honor officers who died in the line of duty, including an officer killed last year in Yuba County.
  • The names of the officers were added to the California Peace Officers’ Memorial in a ceremony at Capitol Mall on Monday.
  • Marysville Officer Osmar Rodarte was among those honored. He died in March 2025 while serving a warrant in Olivehurst. Deputy Paul W. DeRouen of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department was also honored 40 years after an injury ended his law enforcement career.

The families of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty gathered at the Capitol on Monday in a solemn ceremony to add the officers’ names to the California Peace Officers’ Memorial Monument.

The 13-foot bronze monument depicts three law enforcement officers with the inscription: “In the Line of Duty.” The names of fallen officers are added each May during the Annual California Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremonies.

Marysville Police Department Officer Osmar Rodarte was among those added to the monument on Monday. Rodarte was shot in March 2025 while serving a warrant in Olivehurst in Yuba County.

The ceremony also honored Deputy Paul W. DeRouen of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department in a category for those who died in the “Distant Past.” He was seriously injured in 1986 while on duty near Elk Grove Boulevard and died in 2008 following decades of complications stemming from the injuries.

The other officers honored Monday were from Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Alhambra, La Mesa, Baldwin Park, Riverside and Oakland.
