  • Travelers will need to find alternative routes if they are headed West this weekend on Interstate 80 between Natomas and West Sacramento.

An extended section of westbound Interstate 80 will close for construction this weekend, leaving drivers to find alternate routes.

In a traffic alert issued Thursday, Caltrans announced it will shut down the major thoroughfare from its interchange with Interstate 5 in Sacramento, to its interchange with U.S. Highway 50 in Yolo County from 9 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday.

The on-ramps at El Centro Road, West El Camino Avenue and Reed Avenue will be closed, as well as the on and off ramps at Enterprise Boulevard.

The closure is part of an ongoing Caltrans effort to rehabilitate this section of Interstate 80 using tens of millions of dollars from the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

According to the alert, the planned closure is subject to change. For real-time traffic updates, drivers should visit Caltrans’ QuickMap.
