The Abridged version:

  • Dotty Pritchard and Mayra Vega are running for the open District 3 seat on the Yolo County Board of Supervisors.
  • The candidates were the top two vote getters in June’s primary election.
  • Vega jumped to an early lead over Pritchard, as of the first batch of results on election night.

Mayra Vega continues to lead Dotty Pritchard in the race to succeed Mary Vixie-Sandy on the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, according to the Yolo County election update at about 10:15 p.m.

Vega has 4,335 votes to Pritchard’s 3,585.

Both candidates are familiar faces in the third supervisorial district, which includes parts of Woodland, West Sacramento and Wild Wings. Vega is a current member of the Woodland City Council and Pritchard is a longtime deputy in the District 3 office.

At the end of the primary in June, Pritchard led a field of three, with Vega tailing by fewer than 1,000 votes. Xochitl Rodriguez, who did not make it to the November runoff, received more than 3,000 votes in the June contest.

What to watch for

The primary in June saw Pritchard perform well in parts of her hometown of Woodland and the more rural parts of the district. Vega, who is also from Woodland, pulled in lots of votes from the southeastern portion of the city.

Rodriguez did well in the Bryte and Broderick neighborhoods of West Sacramento on the far southwestern edge of the sprawling district. For Vega or Pritchard to win this race, they will likely need to make inroads with voters in that population center.

Dotty Pritchard

Pritchard is a familiar face in the District 3 office. Currently the chief of staff for Vixie Sandy, Pritchard has been a deputy in the office for 20 years and during terms for three different supervisors, including Gary Sandy and Matt Rexroad.

Before that, she was a teacher and small business owner in Woodland.

Pritchard is backed by a coalition that includes former supervisors, Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, Yolo County Business PAC and individual donors. She also received a contribution from the Xochitl Rodriguez campaign in September.

Mayra Vega

Mayra Vega has been a member of the Woodland City Council since 2020 and served a term as mayor. In addition to her work on the council, Vega is a deputy director of communications and planning at the California Department of Health Care Access and Information. She is also an executive coach and small business owner.

Before that, Vega worked in healthcare for two decades.

Vega is backed by a coalition that includes current supervisors, the Yolo County Democratic Party, unions and individual contributors.
